You can have the perfect diet, the best workouts, and an expert plan—but if you don’t have a reason to keep going, it all falls apart when life gets tough.
Most people fail to stay consistent with healthy habits because they haven’t answered one key question:
Why does this matter to me?
As I always say, your purpose is your power. It’s what keeps you climbing when the winds pick up and the road gets steep.
Think of your health journey like ascending a mountain. Without a rope to hold onto, you’ll slip the first time conditions get rough.
Purpose is that rope. It grounds your habits and anchors your motivation.
For example, something as simple as optimizing vitamin D can reduce breast cancer risk by 83%, yet few physicians talk about it. Why? Because we’ve disconnected knowledge from purpose. The real question isn’t what to do—it’s why you’ll keep doing it.
Let me share some of my personal drivers:
Watching a grandparent suffer through strokes and cancer
Visiting a nursing home as a child and seeing my great-grandmother neglected
The fear of not being able to play with my kids because of pain or fatigue
“That will never be me,” I said—and I’ve lived accordingly ever since.
Whether your fuel comes from pain you never want to repeat or joy you deeply desire to experience, the key is to identify it clearly.
Don’t just think about your purpose—write it down.
I recommend listing 3 to 5 core reasons you’re committed to your health. These might include:
People you love
Experiences you want to have
Pain you want to avoid
Values you want to live by
“There’s magic in putting your ‘why’ on paper,” I often say.
Once your vision is clear, habits stop feeling like chores. They become expressions of your values.
You move because you want to be mobile at 90.
You eat clean because you want to avoid disease.
You get adjusted because you want to serve your family without pain.
This is the power of purpose. It turns discipline into desire.
Take five minutes right now and list your top 3 to 5 reasons for living the 100-Year Lifestyle:
Who do you want to be healthy for?
What kind of life do you want to live at 80, 90, 100?
What pain do you want to avoid?
Tape this list on your mirror, your fridge, or your phone screen. Let it guide your choices, your habits, and your legacy.
